Have Faith
“Those
who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait ... and to wait
without anxiety." A Course in Miracles
It was a
chilly, sunny morning on Saturday, January 31st, 1976. I was overflowing
with excitement as our plane landed at the Toronto airport. We called
for a ride and the surprise was revealed as we headed to my parent's
home. But etched in my mind all these years is the moment I hit the top
of the stairs running and headed down the hall to my little sister's
bedroom. I can still see and hear her as she sat up in bed, arms wide
and crying "I knew you'd come."
In spite
of all the letters and phone calls that had said otherwise, she had
faith that somehow I'd make it home for our eldest sister's wedding.
Even I hadn't been sure as I made my secret plans. The law firm I worked
for was not willing to give me time off. In those days, a flight from
Vancouver to Toronto was expensive. I had sent my regrets that I
wouldn't be able to fulfill a promise I'd made - to always come home for
weddings. On my end, some last minute miracles helped pull it off. For
my youngest sister, she believed that I'd keep that promise and while
everyone else had given up hope, her faith was unshakable.
What is
it that keeps us believing in something when it looks hopeless? What
makes us cling with such determination to a belief when the odds would
say impossible? What I know about myself and the courageous clients I
work with is that when something resonates with us on a deep, soul
level, we have a knowing that never disappears. Distractions,
criticisms and obstacles may arise and no matter what shows up on the
outside, we have a an inner wisdom that says "have faith".
Each of
us knows a truth about ourselves that no matter how bleak, stressful,
frightening or boring our lives may look, we have a powerful faith that
keeps us moving. Imagine if this faith was the foundation you operated
from each and every day. Imagine what this holiday season would be like
if your faith ... in yourself ... was
at the heart of every choice you made. Imagine if you knew you were
worthy, loved and made a difference. Imagine.
Question
of the month:
“What beautiful truth are you faithfully holding on to about yourself?”
