"If you have made mistakes ... there is always
another chance for you ... you may have a fresh start
any moment you choose, for this thing we call "failure"
is not the falling down, but the staying down." Mary
Pickford
This quote is perfect for where I am at this moment of
my life. I'm doing the work I love, meeting amazing
people and watching lives expand. Yet, there is a place
where I hold back. It came up in a recent call with my
own coach and was perfectly mirrored by a participant in
one of my Shifting Perspectives workshops. What I
realized is that sometimes I define myself by the
negative parts of my past and in particular, the
mistakes I've made. In spite of knowing better, there
are some areas of my life where I am afraid to expose my
"self".
What I know for sure is that no matter what you have
done, no matter who you have hurt, no matter how you
have mishandled anything, there is indeed another chance
for you. You really can start fresh any moment. The
reality for all of us is that what serves us and the
world we live in is for us to define ourselves by who we
are in this very moment. That's a powerful
acknowledgement and ignites hope.
This message has been short because I have so much to
share with you this month (see the headings below).
Besides, it doesn't take a lot of words to tell the
truth.
QUESTION FOR THE MONTH: "How am I defining myself and
is it true?
